SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
The registration for the We Are Out of Time call for paper and the call for design is now available.
The selected projects will be a part of the Sustainable Architectures for Cultural Places census, promoted and supported by the Directorate General Contemporary Creativity and the Ministry of Italian Culture that hardly worked for starting this important initiative. All the materials can be submitted on the dedicated online platform starting from March 10th, 2024, at h. 9:00 AM..
CALL FOR DESIGN
Professionals and project teams are allowed to participate to this census. It is possible to submit sustainable architecture projects destined to Italian places for culture only, and in particular museums, libraries, archives, archaeological parks and areas, and monumental complex as well as reported by the 101st article of the Cultural Heritage Code (D.Lgs. n. 42/2004 modified and updated by the L. n. 136, Oct. 9th, 2023). Moreover, designs that have not been built yet may be proposed as long as they meet the aforementioned selection criteria.
Please note that Italian, international, or mixed professionals and project teams are allowed to participate, as long as the proposals refer to places of culture located exclusively within the Italian borders.
New construction and/or renovation, restoration and conservation projects are eligible for competition.
All the submitted proposals will be evaluated by an international scientific committee, consisting of expert professionals and scholars in the field of architecture disciplines, planning, conservation, and research.
In order to correctly evaluate the proposals, each candidate should provide, among others, the following data:
- Project typology (ex-novo or renovation)
- Cultural place (D.Lgs. n. 42/2004)
- Description
- Location (address and geographical coordinates)
- Drawings and charts
- Pictures (if any)
- Life Cycle Assessment calculations
- UN Agenda 2030 SDGs reached and motivation.

Please note: If the proposals do not refer to any particular place, albeit belonging to the categories of cultural places as clarified by the Cultural Heritage Code, please indicate under “Location” the address and geographic coordinates of the headquarters of the proponent.
CALL FOR PAPER
Scholars and research team are allowed to participate to this census. They could submit accomplished or ongoing research dedicated to sustainable architecture for the places of culture within the Italian national borders only, and in particular and in particular museums, libraries, archives, archaeological parks and areas, and monumental complex as well as reported by the (D.Lgs. n. 42/2004 modified and updated by the L. n. 136, Oct. 9th, 2023).
Academics and scholar teams’ candidate can propose research about innovative materials, devices, and prototyping, as well as projects related to mitigation, adaptation, integration, and resilience strategies for architecture, as long as they are applicable to the aforementioned cultural sites.
Please note that the candidates can be affiliated to Italian universities as well as to the international academies. Moreover, they can participate organized in mixed research team, both international and Italian members, as long as the proposed projects refer to places of culture located exclusively within the Italian borders and addressed to new constructions and/or renovation, restoration, and conservation projects.

Qualora le ricerche proposte non si riferissero ad alcun luogo in particolare, seppure appartenente alle categorie dei luoghi della cultura così come esplicitati dal Codice dei Beni Culturali, si prega di indicare alla voce “Ubicazione” l’indirizzo e le coordinate geografiche della sede dell’università proponente o del gruppo di ricerca capofila.
